Paul Bonar's House
June 19, 2008
Neither Greg nor Neal were able to make this month's tasting. Paul invited his father, Jim, and another guest, Kevin, in their absence. As usual, Paul was busy preparing food on the Traeger as the group arrived one by one.
The two pre-wines included two Viogniers, both from the 2006 vintage, one from Kestrel and the other from Maryhill. These were tasted with Vintage Gouda, Cocoa Cardona, Abbaye St. Merre, and a Brillat Savarin Fromi with Herbs.
The first of two red flights included offerings from the 2005 vintage, a K Vintners Housewine, a Barnard & Griffin, a Caravan, and a Spring Valley Uriah. The second flight contained two other 2005 wines from House Haven Hills and a Red (GC Wines), and two from 1999, a Caravan and a Spring Valley Uriah. The wines were served with the noted cheeses, Traeger Tri Tip with a Peppercorn rub and corn on the cob.
For dessert, Paul served Fresh Hood Strawberries over a Brownie with Vanilla ice cream and Chocolate Syrup. When the 1987 Ch. Mothe Mouret Sauternes was discovered to be corked, Pual brought out two worthy replacements, a 1998 Ch. Gloria and a 1999 Ch. Du Cru Beaucaillou, both from the left bank commune of St. Julien.
