May 4, 2002 The event started with an Imperial Magnum of 1990 Bollinger Grand Annee and a 1982 Comte Lafon Mersault Charmes. Scampi stuffed with Dungenous Crabs followed with a 1996 Les Folatieres Puligny Montrachet, a 1999 Hopice de Beaune Corton Charlemagne, and a 1995 Domaine Du Vieux Sanitn Sorlin Macon. The third course, Pheasant braised with Chiplote sauce and wild rice was plated and served with a 1996 Meo Camazet Les Chaumes Vosne Romanee, a 1999 Hospice de Beaune Beaune des Avaux, a 1989 Ch. Pichon Longueville Baron, a 1989 Ch. Lynch Bages, a 1995 Ch. Ducru Beaucaillou and a 1996 Ch. Montrose - the event was underway. A short walk, in the rain, was made tolerable with a 1989 Ch. de Beaucastel. When everyone arrived back at the hall, they were greeted with a 1996 E&E Barossa Valley Shiraz, a 1990 Rosemont Shiraz and a 1990 Penfolds Grange. The Australian Shiraz were paired with a salad of Bibb letuce with blue cheese. To Italy and a Bolgheri Tenuta Dell Ornellaia, an Antinoria Toscana Solaia, and a Isole Olena, all from the wonderful 1997 vintage. The wine was matched with Wild Mushroom Ravioli with Pine Nuts and Fresh Herbs. The sixth course, a sorbet, was showed well with a favorite, "The Family." This year, the wine a 1964 Ch. Lafite, a 1964 Ch. Haut Brion, a 1966 Mouton, and 1990 Ch.Margaux, and a 1990 Ch. Latour. And then to California with a 1990 Caymus Special Selection, a 1994 Phelps Insignia, a 1996 Mondovi Reserve and a 1995 Heitz Martha's Vineyard that went well with Buffalo Steak, Roasted Potatoes and Pearl Onions. Matched with cheese and fresh fruit, a 1996 Bringer Private Reserve, a 1996 Ch. St. Jean Cinq Cepages, a 1997 Merryvale Profile and a 1994 Caymus were poured. The evening came to an end with Creme Brulee a glasses of a 1990 Ch. Y'quem, a 1989 Wacheimer Gerumpel Beerenauslese, a 1996 Domaine Des Baumard Quarts des Chaume, and a 1994 Taylor Fladgate. The participants agreed that the next Night to Remember could not come soon enough. |
